As an independent funeral celebrant, I chose a training that would prepare me to lead a personalised funeral or memorial service, honouring the person who has died, and working closely and compassionately with their family and friends.

Before training as a celebrant, I was often involved in services as a professional musician, and so have seen many different service leaders at work. I have also worked in the City, and in education.

I am particularly interested in supporting families from different faiths or cultures, for whom a standard service, whether religious or secular, might not reflect the life, interests, and personality of the deceased, while acknowledging the love, friendship, and respect of the mourners. The funeral service can be completely secular, perhaps using poetry and music, alongside a thoughtful eulogy, or it can include symbolic or religious elements, including prayers or hymns. I can lead the whole service, or support friends and family who want to take part.
