After working for over 35 years in the NHS as a nurse, I have become a funeral celebrant so that I can continue to offer care and support to people- but in a different way.
I first became interested in becoming a celebrant nearly ten years ago when I supported my dad to arrange my mums funeral. Dad felt so proud that we were able to put together such a fitting tribute for my mum. Then four years ago when my dad died, my brothers and I were able to do the same for him.
Whilst a funeral can be an incredibly sad occasion, as we say our final goodbye to our loved one, it is also a fabulous opportunity to honour the person by using photo’s to remind us of the good times, play their favourite music, read poems which describe their personalities and share stories which bring back warm and happy memories.
I would feel privileged to be able to meet with families, to share their precious memories and support them to write a bespoke service which reflects the impact which their loved one had on their lives, to write a eulogy which captures the essence of the person and to support with choosing music, poems, prayers or whatever the preference is.
